a form with clear gesture, and dynamic positive and negative space, found through carving from a 50lb plaster block.

After multiple iterations with sketch models, I decided on the form to the right.

Empathic drawings of sketch models, to inform the final design.

Using chisels the general form was carved out referencing the sketch model. Then the piece was shaved down using a rasp, removing all flat areas on the form. After, it is sanded smooth.

After sanding the piece was mounted to a wood base in a position that best displays its form. I am happy with the result, but of course it can always use more sanding!
